Form CSR-1 is a registration form for getting CSR funding by implementing agencies from the corporates. The Form CSR-1 is termed as Form for “Registration of Entities for undertaking CSR Activities”. The Form mainly consists of two parts, first part is relating to the information about the entity who intends to undertake CSR activities. What is the purpose of the CSR-1 form?

In accordance with the Companies (Corporate Social Responsibility Policy) Amendment Rules, 2021, company can undertake CSR activities either itself or through entities defined under Rule 4 sub rule (1). These companies/entities are required to mandatorily register themselves with the central government for undertaking any CSR activity by filing the e-form CSR-1 with the Registrar.

Is It Mandatory for All NGO’s?

It is mandatory for all NGO’s which wants to raise CSR Funding to enrol with MCA w.e.f 01/04/2021 to get CSR Funding. And Filing of Form CSR-1 has been started on MCA portal

What is the time limit to fill the CSR-1 form?

  • CSR-1 can be filed before obtaining any CSR contribution and undertaking any activities; and
  • CSR-1 is applicable for all the CSR projects or programmes to be approved on or after 01st April 2021.

Which NGOs are eligible to file Form CSR-1 on MCA Portal for getting CSR Funding?

(a) a company established under section 8 of the Act, or a registered public trust or a registered society, registered under section 12A and 80 G of the Income Tax Act, 1961 (43 of 1961), established by the company, either singly or along with any other company, or

(b) a company established under section 8 of the Act or a registered trust or a registered society, established by the Central Government or State Government; or

(c) any entity established under an Act of Parliament or a State legislature; or

(d) a company established under section 8 of the Act, or a registered public trust or a registered society, registered under section 12A and 80G of the Income Tax Act, 1961, and having an established track record of at least three years in undertaking similar activities

What are the documents required for filing Form CSR-1?

Documents required for Uploading

  • PAN Card of the NGO
  • Certificate of Registration

Documents required for Information

  • Name, Designation, PAN & Email Id of all Members of Governing Body
  • Trust Deed/MOA/AOA
  • Resolution to appoint Authorised Signatory with Resolution Number
  • Digital Signature of the Authorised Person
  • Email Id of Entity (it will verified OTP valid for 30 Minutes)

Should the NGO have a certificate 12A And 80G?

For Getting registration under Form CSR-1 with MCA, the NGO must have a valid registration under Section 80G and Section 12AA/12AB is not the mandatory criteria but it is recommended to have 80G & 12A before filing of application for CSR-1. If your NGO is new then firstly you have to Enrol under Section 12AB and Section 80G of Income Tax Act, you will be given provisional registration for 3 Years within one month of application.

Now, NGOs which are already registered under Section 12AA and Section 80G of Income Tax Act to re-register themselves with Income Tax Department in Form 10A for getting continuous exemption benefits under Section 12AB and Section 80G of Income Tax Act. during the period of 3 months from 01-04-21 To 31-06-21. The registration shall be valid for a period of 5 Years.

Should the CSR-1 form be certified by a practicing professional?

Ensure the eForm is digitally signed by a Chartered Accountant/ Cost Accountant or Company Secretary in whole-time practice.Enter the details of the practicing professional and attach the digital signature.

What to get after CSR registration?

When a CSR-1 form is successfully processed, an acknowledgement of the same is sent to the user in the form of an email to the email id of the entity. Further, a digitally signed approval letter along with CSR Registration number with Format CSRXXXXXXXX where X represents system generated unique sequential number will be sent to the FO User as well as the email ID of the entity as entered in the eform.

What kind of registration will be approved?

Upon successful submission of the Form CSR-1, a unique CSR Registration Number shall be automatically generated by the system for the applying organization. The Approval letter will be received on registered email id of the entity.
